Commemorative Medals & Tokens

While not routinely used checks, passes or tickets a further type of paranumismatics represented in this thematic series is the commemorative medal or token. Such items were occasionally produced at some ordnance factories to commemorate special events such as a royal visit, works’ establishment anniversary or closure, the achievement of a special production record or similar event. Such items were typically made for distribution to the factory’s workforce as means of commemorative celebration or a gift of appreciation for work undertaken.

A commemorative token struck to mark the first brass cast and rolled at Royal Ordnance Factory No.13 – Radway Green Small Arms Ammunition Factory near Crewe on December 10th 1940. (31.7 mm diameter).
